President's Acceptance Speech

President Rtn. Subash (he is still the President till 12.00 Midnight), Installing Officer & our Chief Guest PDG Dr.Rekha Shetty, AG Elect, Rtn.Parag, Secretary Rtn. Nester, my wife Bhavana,  Distinguished guests on and off  the Dais,

A VERY GOOD EVENING TO YOU ALL.

Our MOC Rtn.Shashank asked me to deliver my acceptance speech. I personally don’t believe this is my acceptance speech. This is my acknowledgement of your acceptance of me as your President for the year 2012-13 and  a thanksgiving address to all you Rotarians of RC of Panaji for believing that I can lead the club in the ensuing year.

How true it was what Lord Byron, the most Romantic Poet said “And when we think we lead, we are most led. Leadership is a give and take process.”

Yes friends, I look forward to a  year of Peace through Service with a coordinated support  from all of you and advice & guidance  from Past Presidents and veterans of the Club who have  led it for the last 50 years

RI President-elect Sakuji Tanaka has asked  Rotarians to build Peace Through Service in 2012-13.

I quote him “In Rotary, our business is not profit. Our business is peace. Our reward is not financial, but the happiness and satisfaction of seeing a better, more peaceful  world, one that we have achieved through our own efforts.” UNQUOTE

It will be my privilege to carry out the prestigious ongoing projects of our club – Students’ Educational Adoption Scheme, Eye Bank project & widening the scope of Computer Centre at Volvoi. In addition, we have chalked our various service projects which will be executed during the year 2012-13 with special emphasis on revival plans of certain projects undertaken by the Club but which could not be continued due to whatever reasons. To name a few we propose to carry out:-

  • Revival of Anganwadi  & Primary Health Centre at Curca.
  • Revival of Childrens’ Park at Miramar.

In addition to this, we have assessed certain need based  requirements & propose to

  • Provide TV set, Grinder & other needy items to Orphanage at Goa Velha.
  • Provide basic amenities like Wall Clock, Calling Bell etc to Old Age Home at Chimbel.
  • Provide Toilet Block & Playground at Merces School.
  • Provide LCD Projector to Don Bosco School.
  • We also plan to conduct various Health Care Camps & projects as we do every year.

We hope & expect to pro-actively participate in Flag Ship Programme of our D.G – “The Orator of the Year”. A few fund raising projects are also on the cards to strengthen our kitty to support community service projects.

This year has a very significant landmark in my life as I take over as the 51st President of such a prestigious club in the  51st year of my life -  A coincidence which will be engraved in  my memories forever. And the year is also very important for me as it is the 25th Year of my marriage. So its going to be a year full of celebrations combined with service to  humanity.

PDG, DR.Rekha Shetty  M’am,  With your permission, if I may quote the words from your web page that has inspired me to start my journey as a Rotary President  “I AM TOO POSITIVE TO BE DOUBTFUL, TOO OPTIMISTIC TO BE FEARFUL AND TOO DETERMINED TO BE DEFEATED”

I am extremely privileged to be installed by You ma’m.  Thank you  & Rtn.Jai, for being here today. A special word of thanks to Rtn. Gaurish who made it happen.

I am also honoured by the presence of my Sister in Law & her family – Laxmi, Ravi, Kartik & Ankita here today. Thanx for being here.

Thank you all & God bless.
